If you are wondering what the best WOW professions are then this post should help you out and give you an overview of the different types of profession and how they work. I will also give you a recommendation for the best WOW profession or at least my preference of the best choice.
First up we will look at:
Service Professions:
Or at least this is what I am going to call them and they are not that brilliant for getting gold at least when you are starting out. They consist of Enchanting, Blacksmithing and Leatherworking.
You can make some money with these professions but a lot of it comes from the trade channel and “tipping” i.e. getting a tip for your work.
If you actually have any of these professions you will not need to buy that many materials and normally make gold by players seeking them out and bringing their own materials and then tipping them anywhere from 0 – 20 gold.
So if YOU are the crafter this is not an ideal situation as you will be limited by the amount of customers that you get and the amount they pay you.
Also to make money with the servicing professions you will need to be logged on to the game and the benefit of the other professions is that you can make gold while you are sleeping…
Crafting Professions:
Now we will talk about the group of crafting professions in WOW. There are a few crafting professions and these include Jewelcrafting, Tailors and Alchemists. These are very profitable professions as it is so quick to craft an item and then you can sell them on the Auction House.
Obviously you should focus on getting the level up of these professions so when you do sell something the higher level it is the better.
Also as oppose to the servicing set up above you do not have to wait for people to send you their materials, you make the item and pick the price with some help of a good Auction House plug-in like Auctioneer and you put it on the Auction house.
There is lots of gold to be made with the Crafting professions on WOW!
Gathering Professions:
Now if you are new I would recommend the gathering professions because in my opinion they are the easiest to get started with and you will be able to collect/gather while you are questing.
The only thing to remember with gathering is to make sure you focus on the RIGHT items.
World of Warcraft has a REAL economy and that means that the profit potential of items is always going up and down.
The way it works is many gatherers collect the items that players need to level their professions. As Cataclysm has been released and the skill cap has gone up it means that it drove the price of ore and herbs up.
However now most have reached the new profession shill caps things have calmed down a little.
There is still plenty of money to be made with Herbalism and Mining and if you are just starting out it might be the way to go…
